Glossary A–ZLetter G
Gym
In a gym, screens show class timetables, training tips, offers and entertainment for members while they train.
They hang at reception, on the training floor, in studios and on cardio equipment. Some gyms also use screens for instructor-led classes by video.
At reception, they welcome members and show the day's classes and free places. On the training floor, exercise instructions, safety notes for equipment or television channels are shown. New members find changing rooms, studios and sauna via signposts. Nutrition and add-on services are often advertised in the lounge.
Music and television in a gym usually have to be licensed; screens with sound fall under specific tariffs of the collecting society. Photos of members require consent. Advertising for food supplements is subject to limits on health claims. Class timetables should come automatically from the class management system, so that cancelled classes no longer appear. Loud screens on the training floor disturb other members, so subtitles are often the better choice.
