Outdoor display

An outdoor display is a screen built for continuous operation in the open air, with protection against rain, dust, heat, cold and sunlight.

This includes a sealed enclosure, high brightness and temperature control. It differs clearly from an indoor display that is placed outside.

Outdoor displays stand at stops, petrol stations, drive-through counters, on building facades, at entrances and on company premises. Most have fans or air conditioning against solar heat and a heater against frost and misting. Protective glass guards against impacts. High brightness with automatic control keeps the content readable by day without dazzling at night.

Besides the technology, operators should clarify permission early: a screen outdoors can count as an advertising installation and require approval under building law; next to roads, questions of traffic law are added. Power supply, network, maintenance access and theft protection belong in the planning. The IP rating alone does not guarantee suitability for sun and temperature.
