Social media wall

A social media wall is an on-screen display that collects and continuously shows posts from social networks on a particular hashtag, account or topic.

It is used mainly at events, trade fairs, in foyers and in retail.

Guests at an event, for example, post photos with the agreed hashtag, and the wall shows them in the hall moments later. Companies show their own channels in the foyer, retailers show customer photos featuring their products. The posts are retrieved via the platforms' interfaces, whose access conditions may change.

Without moderation, a social media wall is a risk: anyone can post with the hashtag, including insults, competitors' advertising or unlawful content. Approval before display is therefore usual, or at least filters and a quick way of blocking posts. Copyright and the right to one's own image of the people shown must be respected, as must the platforms' terms of use. Operators should decide in advance what is shown if no posts come in.
