Care home

In care homes, screens inform residents, relatives and staff about menus, events, visiting hours and news from the home.

They hang at the entrance, in common rooms, by dining rooms and in staff areas.

Typical content includes the daily schedule with meals and activities such as exercise or singing, birthdays, religious services and outings. For relatives, a screen at the entrance shows visiting rules and contact persons. In the staff area, duty rosters and internal notices are shown, separately from what residents and visitors see.

Residents often have impaired sight and hearing. Large type, high contrast, calm transitions and long display times therefore matter more than design. A clearly visible date and time help with orientation. Residents' names, birthdays and photos should only go on screen with consent. Health data has no place there. Relatives and resident representatives can help choose suitable content. Frequent changes and fast animations tend to confuse.
