Checkout display

A checkout display is the screen at the till that shows the customer the scanned items, prices and the total.

It is also called a customer display. It sits at the staffed till or at the self-service checkout.

During the checkout process, the display shows the items and the amount to pay. Before, after or in a separate area of the screen, notices can appear, for example about a loyalty programme, a promotion or an advert. Because the display is connected to the till system, it can respond to the purchase, for example with a related notice.

Till data takes priority. Advertising must not cover items or the total or delay payment. Anyone showing content based on the purchase processes data from the till system and should check whether personal data is involved, for example via a loyalty card. Attention is brief and focused on paying, so content must be very concise.
