Glossary A–ZLetter D
Device group
A device group brings several screens or players together so that they can be supplied with content, schedules or settings jointly.
Instead of maintaining each device individually, a change is made once to the group.
Groups usually reflect locations, areas or device types, such as “North branch”, “Shop windows”, “Checkout zone” or “Portrait”. A retail chain might, for example, assign a playlist to the group of all shop windows, and every new device added to the group takes it over immediately. Groups also help with administration: when distributing updates, setting operating hours or defining who may edit which devices.
Operators should clarify in advance what applies when a device belongs to several groups or also has its own assignment. Depending on the system, the individual assignment, the first group or a defined order of precedence wins. Without a clear rule, a screen suddenly shows something other than expected. A view showing which assignment actually applies to each device is helpful.
