HDBaseT
HDBaseT is a transmission standard for carrying picture, sound, network, control signals and optionally power over a single network cable.
It covers distances of up to 100 metres. It needs a transmitter at the source and a receiver at the display, unless the display has one built in.
HDMI cables become unreliable over longer distances. In screen networks, HDBaseT helps when the player sits in a technical room and the display hangs from a ceiling, on a pillar or on the other side of a hall. One cable then suffices for picture and control, for example via RS-232 for switching on and off.
Operators should ensure that transmitter and receiver match each other and support the required resolution; devices from different manufacturers do not always work together. The cable must be of the required category and should run directly, not via network switches. HDBaseT is a point-to-point link and not a replacement for transmission over an ordinary company network.
