Glossary A–ZLetter T
Trigger
A trigger is an event that, when it occurs, automatically starts a content change or an action on the screen.
The event can be an external signal, a time of day or a data value.
Examples include a motion or presence sensor that wakes the screen as soon as someone stands in front of it, a product lifted from the shelf that starts the matching film, a touch on a touchscreen, an NFC tag, a signal from another system via an interface, or a reading that crosses a threshold, such as the outdoor temperature. A fixed time can also act as a trigger, for example for a break signal.
Operators should define what happens after the triggered content: does the screen return to its previous sequence, and at which point? What happens if the trigger fires several times in quick succession? Sensors can misfire or fail, and the screen must still carry on sensibly. If people are captured by cameras, data protection rules apply. Not every player can accept external signals; this should be clarified before planning.
