Community screen

A community screen is a screen through which a local community, such as a municipality, a parish or a community centre, shows dates and news for local people.

It hangs, for example, in the town hall, the parish hall or a central square.

Typical content includes events, services, office hours, club news, road closures, waste collection dates and notices about festivals through the year. One example is the lantern parade on St Martin's Day: meeting point, time, route and cancellation in bad weather. Several groups often supply content, which one person collects and approves.

Community screens are often maintained by volunteers or as a side job. Content therefore needs an expiry date so that outdated events disappear. Photos of people, especially children, should only go on screen with consent. An editorial calendar for recurring events saves work. For municipalities, the requirement for neutral information also applies. A fixed contact person who collects and approves content prevents contradictory information.
