Dayparting

Dayparting divides the day into periods that each show different content.

A café might show breakfast in the morning and cake in the afternoon, and a staff restaurant might switch from the lunch offer to the evening menu.

Technically, a daypart is a time window made up of time of day, weekdays and often a date range or public holidays. It is attached to a playlist item or to a whole playlist. Outside the window the item is skipped and the rest keeps playing. This makes it possible to set up one playlist for the whole day that changes by itself with the time.

Operators should check that the player's clock is correct and which time zone applies, because the window follows the device's clock. For public holidays, what matters is which rules apply at the location. If all items fall outside their windows at the same time, something is needed to fill the gap, otherwise the screen stays empty. With advertising, a time window also changes the length of the loop.
