DisplayPort
DisplayPort is a digital interface for picture and sound, specified by the standards organisation VESA.
It mainly connects computers to monitors and professional displays. Many DisplayPort plugs have a latch that stops them slipping out.
In screen networks, DisplayPort is found mainly on mini PCs, Windows players and video walls. Some displays have a DisplayPort output and can pass the signal on to the next device. This way several screens can run in a chain from one output, provided the source and displays support this mode.
Operators should check which version of the interface the source, cable and display support, because the highest resolution and refresh rate depend on it. Adapters to HDMI are common but do not work in every direction or with every device. Many signage displays and small players only have HDMI; DisplayPort can then only be used via an adapter. For long cable runs, active or optical cables are needed.
