Enclosure

An enclosure is the housing that holds the display, media player and connections of a screen and protects them from dust, water, heat and tampering.

It can be part of the display or built as a separate component around a standard display. In totems and outdoor units it is the load-bearing element.

In practice the range goes from a simple frame in an office to a sealed outdoor enclosure with fans, heating and air conditioning. Enclosures in public places cover connections and control buttons so that nobody plugs in a USB stick or switches the device off. For shop windows and halls there are ventilated enclosures that remove heat from inside.

Operators should pay attention to three things: heat dissipation, because a closed enclosure traps heat; service access, so that a player can be swapped without dismantling everything; and the protection ratings, such as the IP rating against dust and water and impact resistance according to the IK code. An enclosure that is sealed only at the front does not belong outdoors.
