Glossary A–ZLetter P
Patient information
Patient information refers to screens in medical practices, hospitals and health centres that inform patients and relatives about procedures, services, preventive care and how things work in the building.
They hang in waiting areas, at reception desks, in corridors and on wards.
The screens show surgery hours, notes on check-ups and vaccinations, hygiene rules, directions to departments, visiting hours and information about self-pay services. The screen is often linked to the calling system, so that patients are called to the treatment room. In hospitals, menus and events are added.
Strict rules on advertising apply in healthcare, including for one's own practice. Information should be factual, without promises of cures and without creating fear. Patient data should appear on screen only as far as is necessary for calling. Content should be understandable and available in several languages. Medical statements should be checked by the clinical staff. Sound is usually disruptive in the waiting area, so content should be understandable without it.
