Perimeter advertising (perimeter LED)
Perimeter advertising with LED boards is advertising on LED boards that surround a playing field and show changing motifs.
The boards usually run as one continuous surface on which motifs travel in sync along all sides or change at the same time. They replace the printed or rotating boards used in the past.
In stadiums and halls, the schedule is often planned by minutes of play: each advertiser receives fixed time segments that repeat throughout the match. The boards address not only the crowd on site but above all the cameras of the television broadcast. That is why they are usually tilted slightly and aimed at the main camera. Besides advertising, they show scores, notices and messages from the club.
The technology must work on camera: too low a refresh rate on the LEDs causes stripes or flicker in the television picture, and fine patterns in a motif can trigger moiré effects. Boards close to the pitch need a soft cover so that athletes are not injured if they run into them. Associations and leagues often have their own rules on brightness, motion and content; operators should obtain these before planning.
