Stretched display

A stretched display is a screen with a strongly elongated aspect ratio, that is, much wider or much taller than a usual 16:9 device.

It is also called a bar display.

Its narrow shape lets it fit where a normal screen has no room, for example on shelf edges, above a counter or as a narrow band on a wall. It suits prices, short messages, tickers or notices that fit on a single line.

Standard video does not fit a stretched display; it would appear with large borders or heavily cropped. Content has to be designed in the matching format, with type and images that stay legible at a small height. Operators should check in advance whether their player and management system support the unusual format and the device's exact resolution, and ask the manufacturer for the resolution, as there is no fixed size for these screens.
