USB playback

USB playback means that a screen plays images and videos directly from an inserted USB stick, usually in an endless loop.

Many professional displays and some televisions have this function built in. No additional player or network connection is required.

For individual screens with content that rarely changes, this is a simple way to start: copy files to the stick, plug it in, done. Some devices copy the content from the stick to internal storage so that the stick can be removed afterwards. Typical uses are an advertising screen in a small shop, a stand at a trade fair or a display at a location without a network.

The limits appear as the number of devices grows: every change requires a visit on site, there is no scheduling or only a simple one, no feedback on whether the screen is running and no proof of play. Supported file formats are often limited. An openly accessible USB port is also a gateway for unauthorised content. Operators should cover the port and consider remote management once there are several locations.
