SoC display
A SoC display is a display with a built-in system on chip on which the player software runs directly, without an external media player.
Processor, graphics, memory and network sit in the display itself. The player software is installed as an app on the display manufacturer’s platform.
In screen networks, a SoC display saves one device, one power supply and one cable per location. This reduces sources of error and simplifies installation, especially with many identical screens in branches, waiting areas or offices. The display can often be switched on and off and monitored directly over the network.
Operators should check whether the desired player software runs on the manufacturer’s platform and for how long the manufacturer will supply firmware and security updates. Processing power is limited; complex web content or several videos at once can stutter. If support for the platform ends, the player cannot simply be swapped; an external player on the same display then helps.
