Remote management

Remote management lets screens and players be looked after from one central place without anyone having to travel to the device.

It is usually part of the CMS.

Typical tasks include assigning content, setting schedules, defining on and off times, triggering a restart, distributing updates and checking status. Many systems also show a current screenshot, so you can see what is actually playing. Alerts notify you when a device stops reporting in, its storage is full or content has failed to load.

Remote management only reaches as far as the connection: if the player is switched off or disconnected from the network, often only someone on site can help. Alert rules should be set to report genuine failures but not to fire at every brief interruption. Because so much can be changed through remote management, access should be protected, for example with individual accounts, suitable permissions and a second login factor.
