Website as content

With a website as content, the player calls up an internet address and displays the page as it currently exists on the server.

The content is therefore not distributed as a file but loaded afresh each time it is displayed.

This is practical for content that already exists as a website and changes constantly: an events calendar, a timetable, a weather page, a report from an analytics program or the organisation's own intranet. Changes to the website appear on the screen without any further step. The page is often shown in one area of the layout and reloaded at set intervals.

Websites are usually built for desktop screens, not for a screen in a room: text is too small, and menus, cookie notices and login windows get in the way. Some websites technically prevent being displayed within someone else's frame and then remain blank. Without a connection, the screen shows nothing or an error message, and what appears on the page is outside the operator's control. Operators should therefore only embed pages they know or are responsible for, provide a fallback display and not call up pages requiring login with personal accounts.
