Window-facing display

A window-facing display is a screen placed behind a shop window and facing outwards towards passers-by.

It must hold its own against daylight and reflections and is often seen on the move. For this it is considerably brighter than an indoor display.

Window-facing displays are typical in pharmacies, estate agents, travel agencies, fashion and optician shops. They show offers, opening hours or promotions, often outside opening hours as well. Many devices have an ambient light sensor that adjusts brightness to the time of day. They come suspended from the ceiling, on feet or as a double-sided version with a second side facing into the shop.

Operators should plan the space behind the glass carefully: sun heats the gap between pane and display considerably, so distance and air circulation are needed. Reflections in the pane can be reduced by placement and angle. Content must be understandable in a few seconds from several metres. Whether a screen in a shop window requires approval depends on regional law and the individual case.
