Bezel (frame width)

The bezel is the width of the border between a display’s picture area and its outer edge.

The English term bezel is also widely used in German. For video walls it is a decisive figure, because it determines the seam between the screens.

For a single display, the bezel matters mainly for appearance. When several displays are combined into a video wall, the borders of neighbouring devices add up to a visible seam. Manufacturers therefore often state the gap between two picture areas. Displays for video walls have particularly narrow bezels so that the seam disturbs as little as possible.

Operators should design content for video walls so that faces, text and logos do not run across a seam. Even narrow seams remain visible, especially on bright areas. Bezels and enclosures can cover parts of the picture at the edge; a safety margin in the layout helps. Anyone who needs a completely seamless surface can hardly avoid an LED wall.
