CE marking
CE marking is the mark with which a manufacturer declares that its product meets all EU legal requirements that apply to it.
It is a precondition for placing many products on the EU market. It is neither a quality seal nor a test mark issued by an authority.
For screens and players, the relevant rules include requirements on electromagnetic compatibility, electrical safety and hazardous substances, and for devices with radio functions also the radio equipment rules. The Cyber Resilience Act adds requirements on the security of the software. The manufacturer checks conformity, prepares technical documentation and an EU declaration of conformity, and only then affixes the mark.
Anyone who sells devices under their own name or substantially modifies a product may take on the obligations of a manufacturer themselves. This also affects operators who, for example, pass players bearing their own logo on to customers. Distributors and importers must check that the mark and the required documents are present. A CE mark says nothing about suitability for continuous operation or about picture quality.
