DIY store

In a DIY store, screens help customers find their way around large halls, understand products and see offers.

Typical are displays above aisles, screens in specialist departments and product search terminals. A garden centre with an outdoor area is often part of the store.

In practice, the screens show how-to videos, for example on laying tiles, along with weekly offers, information on in-store services such as cutting or paint mixing, and directions to departments. A terminal can show which aisle an item is in or offer goods from the online range that are not in stock in the store.

DIY stores have high ceilings, long sight lines and a lot of dust. Screens therefore need to be larger, or hang closer to the customer, than the room height suggests. In the garden centre, sun, moisture and temperature take their toll, and devices for outdoor use are needed there. How-to videos do not replace advice on safety matters, such as electrical work.
