OPS slot

An OPS slot is a standardised bay at the back of a screen into which a complete computer is inserted as a module.

OPS stands for “Open Pluggable Specification”. The computer receives power and its video connection through the slot, so no cables are needed.

With an OPS module, a professional display or an interactive board becomes a complete system with its own operating system, such as Windows or Android. This saves space and cabling and prevents cables from being unplugged or players from being taken away. If the computer fails or becomes outdated, it can be replaced without taking the screen down.

Not every module fits every screen: manufacturers implement the standard differently, and the power supply and cooling in the bay limit how powerful a module may be. The computer's heat adds to that of the screen, which matters in tight housings and totems. Operators should have the manufacturer confirm that module and screen are compatible and bear in mind that an OPS computer needs updates and maintenance like any PC.
