Glossary A–ZLetter S
Self-service area (bank)
The self-service area is the part of a bank branch with cash machines, statement printers and transfer terminals, and it is often accessible outside opening hours.
Screens there inform customers about services, notices and offers.
Typical are screens on the wall or in the window showing opening and advice hours, notes on online banking, warnings about scams and the bank's offers. Because customers stand at the machine only briefly, content must be quick to grasp. In the evening and at weekends, the screen is often the only point of contact.
Anyone advertising interest rates or credit terms must provide certain mandatory information, which must also be legible on screen. Screens must not make it easier to see other customers' machines and entries. Cameras in the self-service area serve security purposes and should be kept separate from screen technology. Cash machines and other terminals are subject to their own accessibility requirements. At night, brightness should be adjusted.
