Power schedule (on and off times)
A power schedule sets the times and days at which a screen is switched on and when it is dark or in standby.
It is usually stored per weekday in the management software and carried out by the player. It governs whether the screen is on, not what it shows.
A shop window screen might run from 8 am to 10 pm, an office screen on weekdays only. The player switches the display to standby via HDMI-CEC, a serial interface (RS-232) or a manufacturer-specific command, or it simply blanks the picture. This saves electricity, spares the panel and avoids light at night where it is a nuisance.
Not every display responds to every command, so this should be tested on one unit before the rollout. The player itself often stays on so that it can download content and report in overnight. Public holidays and company closures belong in the schedule, and alerting should know the off times so that a screen that is dark as planned does not raise a fault. A power schedule is not the same as the rated operating hours on the data sheet.
