Shop window interaction

Shop window interaction refers to screens in a shop window that passers-by can operate from outside, by touching the glass, using gestures or their own phone.

This means a shop can still be engaged with outside opening hours.

There are several technical approaches. A touch foil behind the glass makes the pane touch-sensitive. Cameras or sensors detect gestures in front of the window. A QR code leads to a page through which the passer-by controls the screen or takes offers away. An estate agent can thus show properties to browse, a travel agent offers by destination.

Sun on the glass makes reading and detection harder, so a high-brightness display is usually essential. Interaction must be limited to what is necessary and must not open access to a browser or the system. If gestures are detected by cameras, data protection must be checked. Because many passers-by do not interact, the screen must also show something useful without input.
