Glossary A–ZLetter T
Template
A template is a layout with fixed and fillable fields for screen content.
Design, type and colours are predefined, and only certain fields are filled in.
Head office defines the design, type and colours once; the branch only enters values such as price, text or photo. Everything looks consistent, and changes need no graphics software. Templates suit recurring content such as daily offers, menus, event notices or welcome messages. Some templates take their values automatically from a data source.
A template should limit what can be entered, such as the length of a text, so that nothing runs over the edge or becomes too small. Portrait and landscape usually need separate versions. Operators should decide who may change templates and who only fills in fields. Anyone placing images in a template must hold the rights to them; the template itself does not settle that.
