Remote screenshot
A remote screenshot is an image of what a player is currently outputting, sent to the management software on request or at regular intervals.
It lets staff check from their desk whether a screen is showing the right thing. Some systems combine many such images into an overview of all screens.
If a branch reports that its screen is showing something wrong, the screenshot answers the question in seconds: wrong content, an error message or an operating system dialogue. After a rollout or a playlist change, it confirms that all devices are playing the new version without anyone having to travel there.
The screenshot shows the player’s output, not what the display actually shows. If the display is switched off, on the wrong input or faulty, the screenshot may still show a correct picture. On some devices, videos appear as a black area in the screenshot even though they are playing. If the screen shows personal data, such as names called in a waiting room, the screenshots contain it too; who may view them and how long they are kept should be settled.
