KPI dashboard
A KPI dashboard is a display that clearly summarises selected performance or operating figures and updates them continuously.
On a screen it makes visible figures that would otherwise only appear in reports or software.
Typical examples are output and scrap in production, incoming orders in sales, waiting times in customer service or days without a workplace accident. The values come from a data source, such as a spreadsheet, a database or an analytics program, and are shown as charts, traffic lights or large numbers. A shift thus knows where it stands without opening a computer.
A dashboard for a screen in a room has to look different from one for a desk: few figures, large lettering, clear colours and no details that can only be read up close. Operators should clarify who may see the figures, because a screen in a corridor also shows them to visitors. If the figures allow conclusions about the performance of individual employees, the works council has a right of co-determination under German law. Access to the data source should run through a dedicated account with read-only rights.
